Renal cell carcinoma (RCC), is the most common form of kidney cancer. 70% of RCC cases are clear cell carcinomas. 10% of RCCs are papillary renal carcinomas. 5% of RCCs are chromophobe renal carcinomas. The rest of the RCC cases are very rare.

There are other types of kidney cancers such as Wilms tumor (nephroblastoma), which almost always occurs in children. This type of cancer is very rare in adults.
